**First Time At Auction**
North America, Northwestern United States / Canada, Washington & British Columbia, North Cascades region, ca. millions of years ago. A large raw chunk of obsidian! The surface of the volcanic stone is pitted with light mineral deposits and has an unassuming exterior, if not for a large, flaked area that reveals the glassy jet-black interior that is quite striking! Obsidian is a material that mankind has used for thousands of years; when shaped, the edges of obsidian are razor sharp! Geological dating has provided evidence that the Salish people of British Columbia have been using obsidian for tools and trade for nearly 10,000 years. Because Obsidian is only found in volcanic regions, it was a cherished material and invaluable for trade. Size: 7.5" L x 6" W x 5.5" H (19 cm x 15.2 cm x 14 cm)
