A coin minted during the First Jewish-Roman War, sometimes called the Great Revolt in Hebrew, the first of three major rebellions by the Jews against the Roman Empire. In addition to being propelled by religion, the war was also about economic inequality. Roman taxation of the Jews in Judaea had caused financial ruin for many people for 60 years, and the tax money left the region to finance other parts of the Roman Empire. The war ultimately ended in the destruction of major Jewish towns, the Temple in Jerusalem, and the appropriation of Jewish land for the Roman military.
