Signed in pencil on the lower edge of the composition, an unforgettable abstract figural work depicting the torso of a mysterious figure that somehow conveys a universal quality - an interpretation of humankind throughout the ages created by one of the most intriguing contemporary Spanish artists whose parlays into figurative expressionism reflect the influences of Spanish masters such as Goya, Ribera, or Velasquez. Size: 7.75" L x 5.75" W (19.7 cm x 14.6 cm); 13.125" L x 10.125" W (33.3 cm x 25.7 cm) framed
Born in Madrid, Ignacio Burgos earned his degree in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Complutense University of Madrid in 1991. Later that year, Burgos studied with Klaus Fussman at Hochschule der Kunste Berlin. Following this, Burgos had his first exhibitions in Germany (Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Leipzig and Cologne) until he moved to New York in 1996 and began exhibiting in numerous American cities while being represented by his gallery in Chelsea. Burgos left New York in 1999, and moved to Paris upon an invitation of the French Ministry of Culture to reside in the "Cite Internationale des Arts". In Paris, Burgos had three solo and one group exhibition. He returned to Madrid in 2001, and prepared exhibitions headed for Europe and the US. The following year, a retrospective publication about his oeuvre entitled "The Book" was presented in Madrid's Circulo de Bellas Artes. UNESCO honored Burgos in 2007 as a member of the photography jury for the International Humanity Photo Awards in Shanghai.
