Ancient Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE. This is an elegant vessel of an impressive size, with a globular body and a rounded, slightly conical base. The midsection to the rim is slip painted with intricate red on cream decorations comprised of spiraling, interlocking, curvilinear, and striated motifs along with stylized designs resembling a leaf, a petal, or a star. The dramatic, flared neck leads into a deep interior cavity. An attractive example of ancient Ban Chiang artistry! Size: 13" Diameter x 19" H (33 cm x 48.3 cm)
