Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 25th Dynasty, ca. 664 to 525 BCE. A striking, mold-formed, leaded-copper depiction of Osiris, the primary deity of the Egyptian Pantheon, father of Horus and husband of Isis, and god of the underworld. Osiris stands in mummiform with a slender body, bent arms with detailed hands grasping his symbolic crook and flail, with a thick tang projecting from beneath his feet, and an incised banded pectoral collar around his neck. His face exhibits traditional characteristics such as almond eyes, cupped ears, full lips with indented corners, and a wide nose, and atop his head rests the white crown of Upper Egypt (known as a "hedjet" crown) with a frontal uraeus and a pair of flanking ostrich feathers. Enveloped in beautiful green and russet patina, this is a fabulous example of fine Egyptian artistry! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 2.25" W x 8.75" H (5.7 cm x 22.2 cm); 9.125" H (23.2 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection, acquired from Artemis Gallery in 2014; ex-private Paris, France collection
