Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 11th century CE. An elegant ring made from high-grade (98-99%) silver wire that was twisted and impressed with a corded pattern before being coiled roughly three or four times to form the overall shape. This ring and others like it would have been a visible sign of wealth and prestige. It was possibly used as currency, deposited in a river as an offering to the gods, or buried with its owner upon their death. Size: 1.125" Diameter x 0.625" Thick (2.9 cm x 1.6 cm); grade of silver: 98 to 99%; total weight: 23.1 grams; US ring size 9.75.
