Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A beautiful collection of mainly Mezcala green stone beads with several darker green beads that are perhaps of Maya origin. Fifty two ancient beads in total strung in modern times with modern findings the tiny green stones flanking the clasp are modern disc beads. The colors of the beads range from green with hints of pink and brown, light grey, and black flecked with white. Various shapes of beads; cylindrical barrels, rounded spheres, and pebbles. The necklace is strung in a symmetrical fashion with the largest bead pendent at the center. The pendent bead is a sage colored green stone that is spherical with hints of brown and white. Several beads are carved with lines that are reminiscent of abstracted animals or faces. These stones were carved, drilled, and polished by hand to adorn those of rank and prestige.
