Greek, Hellenistic period, ca. 3rd century BCE. Wonderful, large, and important! A beautiful terracotta standing youth, in the style of Centuripe, stepping forward as if alighting. His head is turned to the left and presents his round face with a smiling mouth, full bow-shaped lips, and an upturned nose, all beneath a freely modeled coiffure bound in a long braid on the crown that frames the forehead and ears in wavy curls. The youth dons a flowing cloak over his right shoulder that drapes behind his back towards a large, circular vent hole on the verso. His feet are either cloven or deliberately unfinished. Remains of gesso and traces of pink and red pigment are visible across this stunning composition. Size: 20.5" H (52.1 cm); 20.75" H (52.7 cm) on included custom stand.
