Ancient Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A stunning pair of wearable earrings comprised of 97% gold (equivalent to 22K+ gold) with semicircular loops behind. The body form of each earring is that of a griffin with a lion head with a pair of small horns, small front legs, incised striations on the chest denoting hair, and tall wings with broad feathers. The lower body culminates in a concentric ringed border, and the griffins' gold-wire-wrapped tails act as the original loop. A modern gold shepherd's hook pin is tied around the tops of each original loop and enable the wearability of these gorgeous ancient accessories! Size of each (both are relatively similar): 0.75" W x 0.8" H (1.9 cm x 2 cm); quality of gold: 97% (equivalent to 22K+); total weight: 9.4 grams.
