Ancient Greece, Cyclades, Cycladic culture, Early Cycladic II, ca. 2800 to 2500 BCE. A lovely dish of a near-miniature size that is hand-carved from honey-yellow alabaster. The charming vessel presents with a characteristic shallow form surrounded by a thin rim, with smooth surfaces surrounding the interior basin, and a relatively narrow underside that culminates in a petite indentation meant to stabilize the dish when resting on a flat surface. Note the attractive hues of peach, cream, butterscotch, coffee, and ash gray mottled across the surfaces. Size: 3.65" W x 1.17" H (9.3 cm x 3 cm)
