Greece, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown pottery lekythos of a squat form with a protruding discoid foot beneath a squat, apple-shaped body, a rounded shoulder tapering to a narrow neck, a funnel mouth with a thick, overhanging rim, and a slender handle arching between neck and shoulder. Beautiful black glaze coats the exterior of the vessel. Adorning the front of the vessel is an elegant left facing 'lady of fashion' with a bulbous chin and a kekryphalos hairstyle behind curly bangs, all between a pair of spiraling volutes.
