East Asia, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A gilt copper and silver statue of a seated Buddha in the dhyanasana position, with hands forming the Dharmachakra mudra, a teaching gesture. The Buddha rests upon an octagonal lotus petal pedestal. The ornate back panel features a mandorla with openwork scrolling motifs, and at the top, a depiction of the Buddha of the future. The mandorla was cast separately and attached to the Buddha's verso. The Buddha is finished with high-quality plating. Size: 4.25" Diameter x 6.2" H (10.8 cm x 15.7 cm); gold quality: 24% to 30%; silver quality: 86% to 88%.
