George Molnar (American, b. 1953). "Night Shift" oil on canvas, n.d. Signed at lower right. A magnificent painting by contemporary Western artist George Molnar. The composition features a lifelike portrayal of a cowboy and his trusty dog relaxing by a campfire under the night sky. The cowboy gazes at the golden flames while enjoying a cup of joe (note the coffee pot) with his rifle resting against his leg. Rather than capturing an action-packed view of the cowboy at work, Molnar opts to present this more intimate, quiet moment. While Molnar's skill and precision are undeniable, his ability to capture the tranquil mood of a moment is even more impressive. A very special painting by an artist who has been called a "champion of composition, detail, and communicative power" mounted in a custom, museum-quality frame. Size (sight view): 21.25" L x 47.25" W (54 cm x 120 cm) Size (frame): 34" L x 60.5" W (86.4 cm x 153.7 cm)
About the artist: "Technically, Molnar commands superb control of surface and color, but the importance of technique fades as one experience the spiritual presence of his images. Yes, his canvases are precise, but the feeling he communicates is quite beyond description.
Molnar prefers to place his subjects in their natural settings: scenic landscapes, rock formations, an old corral, and he has painted some individuals many times over the years, showing their growth from childhood to adolescence. George draws his inspiration from many talented artists including his wife Marcia, son Ben, and daughter Shasta who all continue to blaze artistic trails of their own. Capturing his perception of the spirit of Native American and Western life, Molnar provides a 'window' to this world and reminds us, 'The painting reflects what is inside me, and how I felt about the subject.' Paintings by George Molnar are in numerous museum collections including the Tucson Museum of Art, Desert Caballeros Western Art Museum, Pearce Museum, and the Phippen Art Museum."
