USA Domestic: 12/14 for Standard; 12/23 for Express; International: 12/7 for Standard; 12/19 for ExpressWilliam Richards (American or European), "Mouse with Walnuts" oil on board, ca. early 20th century CE. Signed "Richards" on lower right. An endearing little painting depicting an adorable mouse nibbling on walnuts in a cupboard. Notice how his long tail is draped over a crevice on the edge of the shelf in wonderful trompe l'oeil fashion. Adding to the trompe l'oeil "trick of the eye" effects are realistic details - the cracked walnuts as well as the masterfully rendered textures of the mouse's soft fur, teary eye, and smooth ears - meticulously delineated by Richards. Size: 4.5" W x 3.5" H (11.4 cm x 8.9 cm); 8.125" W x 7.125" H (20.6 cm x 18.1 cm) framed.
Provenance: The William F. Draper Collection, New York City, USA, acquired via descent from the late William Franklin Draper (1912-2003), an accomplished American artist whose career spanned seven decades. Known as the "Dean of American Portraiture," William Draper was the only artist to paint President John F. Kennedy from life, and his oeuvre includes marvelous landscapes from his world travels, military paintings as he was one of only seventeen Combat Artists in WWII, and portraits of illustrious individuals.
