- Lot Description
Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A stunning silk and brocade textile, extensively embroidered with silk and metallic threads and adorned with high-quality silver and brass settings inlaid with turquoise and coral. At the lower end, silk tassels are attached to eight panels sewn onto the main rectangular cloth. An embroidered Kirtimukha, with an open fanged mouth, is surrounded by scrolling floral motifs, Chinese characters, and longevity symbols. Above, in the other red section, an embroidered auspicious conch sits atop a tiered pedestal, accompanied by the Matsyayugma (paired fish), an endless knot, and additional floral motifs. The four attached silver and brass settings feature intricate filigree wirework; the lower three resemble shells, while the uppermost takes the form of a rosette. Likely worn as part of a sash or belt adornment, this exquisite textile is now mounted in a wooden frame under glass and is ready for display. Size of textile: 50.3" L x 2.5" W (127.8 cm x 6.4 cm); frame: 8.125" L x 2" W x 58" H (20.6 cm x 5.1 cm x 147.3 cm)

#191902Not examined outside of case. Mounted in a modern wood frame under glass. Missing tassels to the end. Fading to silk and some discoloration from age / use. Frayed threads throughout and some threadbare areas, but overall nice preservation to textile. Dark patina to silver bezels.Condition
