Nasser Ovissi (American-Iranian, b. 1934), artist proof, signed at lower right margin, ca. mid to late 20th century. A signed artist proof by celebrated artist Nasser Ovissi, this piece is truly a highlight in our current holdings. This composition features nude lovers on the left, a nude male on the right who holds a book and has a string instrument, perhaps a Persian tar, as well as a wine vessel with a tipped wine glass and pools of spilled red wine. Perhaps this is Ovissi's interpretation of a Bacchanalian subject. The figures and slightly raised Persian tar are mostly white, making a striking contrast with the colorful setting and almost surreally merging in and out of the picture plane. In the artist's words, "My work is dedicated to the beauty of life and I hope those who experience my work will walk away with an experience of beauty." Size: 19.25" W x 15.375" H (48.9 cm x 39.1 cm); 30.25" W x 26.5" H (76.8 cm x 67.3 cm) framed
