Lance Fairly (American, b. 1960) "Alii Beach Sunset" oil painting on canvas, ca. 2000s. Signed at lower left. An idyllic Hawaiian beach scene by Lance Fairly depicting a sunset over the water that captures the rolling tides of the beach, palm trees serving as 'parentheses' for the shoreline, and the golden sunrays dappling fading light throughout the periwinkle skies and pristine blue waters. Living in Hawaii, on the Northeast shore of Oahu, Fairly has witnessed firsthand the undeniable beauty of the Hawaiian landscape and seascape. Furthermore, his experiences with ocean sports such as surfing and sailing inform his visual accounts of the island. A majestic painting set in museum-quality framing comprised of natural wood that compliments the scene perfectly. Size: 34.5" W x 22.5" H (87.6 cm x 57.2 cm); 46" W x 34.125" H (116.8 cm x 86.7 cm) including framing
Background of artist: Born in 1960 in Sanford, Florida, Lance grew up in and around the ocean due to his father's career in the U.S. Navy. Surfing, sailing, and other ocean sports kept him in the water and led to his first job. At age 15, Lance joined the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving Corp as a lifeguard in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. His other great passion has always been a desire to express the beauty of the world around him. His mother recalls a time when at age 5, he ran in to draw on the chalkboard, the sun's rays he'd seen beaming through the clouds. This same passion is evident in his work today. After high school, Lance attended the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, where he received fundamental training that laid the foundation for his career as a fine artist. He then spent a short time working on the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, rebuilt a sailboat that had been destroyed by a hurricane, and finally, after learning to air brush, moved to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands for two winters. "As with all artists, my work is a reflection of who I am. My relationship with God has shown me how blessed I am and that my gifts have a purpose. It is my greatest hope to share the love, peace, and joy that I now possess in Christ Jesus."
