Eastern Europe, Russia, southeastern Magadan Region, Seymchan, ca. 1967 CE. A gorgeous slice from the Pallasite Seymchan meteorite composed entirely of iron with some nickel content as well. This Pallasite fragment is a rare alloy known as kamacite; a 90% to 95% iron with a 5% to 10% nickel content. Kamacite is only found on earth via meteorites! The interesting interlacing banding and ribboning is known as Widmanstatten patterns or Thomson structures and are naturally occurring fine layers of material. Fragments of this meteorite were found in the Yasachnaya River in 1967. In 2004, a substantial amount of additional material was recovered from the same site. The fragment is professionally displayed in a glass and metal display case that has glass on the verso side to view both faces of the Pallasite, and an integral mounting hook, and is ready to display. Size of Pallasite: 5" L x 2.85" W (12.7 cm x 7.2 cm); case: 8.125" L x 6.125" W (20.6 cm x 15.6 cm); weight: 168.1 grams
