Europe, The Netherlands, late 19th to early 20th century. Both signed "T. Peters" (one on lower right, the other on lower left). A quaint pair of Dutch genre paintings that harken back to the popularity of scenes of everyday life in 17th century northern Europe. One painting presents a domestic scene featuring a girl sitting on a bench and playing with a bird, while a toddler, perhaps her sibling, sits on the floor in the same room and fiddles with a box or play house. A sweet little doll lies on the floor between the pair. The setting includes a window with a drawn curtain, so that one can also see the outdoors, a shelf with knick-knacks or vessels above a ladderback chair, and a chest to the right of the composition with a crucifix displayed on top. Size: each one ~ 10.625" W x 8.5" H (27 cm x 21.6 cm); 13.625" W x 11.5" H (34.6 cm x 29.2 cm) framed
The second painting features a modest domestic interior with a woman dressed in a white bonnet and blue garments standing before a window that lets daylight into her home, an open wooden barrel before her, a hearth to the right, an open door to the left, and an adorable chicken heading toward her. A wonderful pair of Dutch genre paintings - both created by the same artist, T. Peters, the same size, and set in matching custom frames.
