A charming bird's eye view of a European urban street with vendors selling their wares below large umbrellas framed by vernacular buildings with clotheslines strewn from window to window - sumptuously painted with rich passages of thick impasto. Facing the viewer is a lovely woman dressed in a long sleeve blue blouse and a full red skirt holding a basket of produce. In general, the palette is rich with peacock blue, scarlet red, sky blue, bright white, muted pink, violet, earthtone, and cool green hues. Always very active socially in New York City, the couple knew many famous artists, writers, and actors in the 1950's - 1970's.

Condition
The painting is well preserved. Verso of canvas and stretchers have darkened with age. Frame shows normal wear with some minor abrasions commensurate with age.
