Ancient Greece, Archaic Period, ca. 5th century BCE. A stunning collection of 27 die-formed appliques in circular, ovoid, rectangular, and star forms shaped from 79% gold (equivalent to 18K+ gold). Many of the appliques feature intricate figural or facial details in repousse, many of whom are well-known in classical Greek mythology. Included are five star-shaped appliques with one missing an arm; 2 left-facing lions with muscular bodies and roaring mouths; 2 right-facing boars with hairy bodies and circular eyes; 3 birds feasting upon ram heads; 3 depictions of Bes, the Egyptian dwarf deity of household protection; 1 running satyr with his head turned back; 4 flowers flanked with broad palmettes; 6 depictions of gorgons with 3 heads and 3 running winged figures; and 1 depiction of the moon goddess Selene shown seated with a lion, a ram, and a raised arm on the upper-left corner. Mounted on fabric within display frame. Size of largest (Selene): 1.625" W x 1.75" H (4.1 cm x 4.4 cm); size (frame): 10.6" L x 9" W (26.9 cm x 22.9 cm).

One star missing one arm. All items have slight bending to overall form, small nicks to peripheries, with minor softening to some finer details, and light encrustations. Fine patina across some appliques.
