William John Huggins was an accomplished British marine painter to George IV and William IV. He exhibited a work at the Royal Academy in 1817 and would continue to exhibit there until his death. In addition, he exhibited works at the British Institution from the year 1825 on. Huggins' paintings were coveted, particularly because he had extensive nautical knowledge. His works were regarded as portraits of ships that provided a valuable understanding and documentation of shipping during the period.
