Dustin Lyon (American, b. 1951). "Crossing the South Fork" gouache, ca. 2003. Signed by the artist on lower right. A stunning composition by American artist Dustin Lyon depicting a Native American on horseback, wearing indigenous dress and leading two other horses across the south fork of a river. Evergreen trees line the river's edge, and steep cliffs rise beyond. Lyon has an uncanny ability of transporting the viewer back in time with his serene imagery and suggested historical narratives. What's more, his use of gouache, an underappreciated medium, brings out the brilliance of light and color in his compositions. A stunning piece set in a gorgeous custom frame. Size: 9" L x 12" W (22.9 cm x 30.5 cm) Size of frame: 16.5" L x 19.5" W (41.9 cm x 49.5 cm)
According to the artist's website, "Dustin Lyon invites all to step back into a time when life was more genteel. A quiet walk through a town square, a short trolley ride home, a grand landscape or the quiet solitude of a Native American encampment are just a few of the excursions that Dustin will take you on. As a native of Idaho, Lyon's early life was filled with horses, farming, and wildlife in a land rich in history. These familiar subjects are often painted against a backdrop from a specific locale encountered in his travels throughout the United States. Recognizable landmarks and monuments create compositional effects in his paintings as well as lending an attitude of familiarity for the viewer of each of his paintings."
