Frances Flora Bond Palmer (American, 1812-1876). "Winter Morning." Hand colored lithograph. New York: Currier & Ives, 1861. One of Currier & Ives' most popular themes - a snowy winter day on a country farm in New England, with farm animals enjoying breakfast near the barn behind a split rail fence at the front left foreground, while a rider and horse-drawn sleigh approach a stately farm house at the right. This composition was created by Francis "Fanny" Palmer, one of the most sought after artists who worked for Currier & Ives. A wonderful example set in a custom matte and frame. Size of image: 11.3" L x 15.3" W (28.7 cm x 38.9 cm) Size of frame: 21" L x 24.3" W (53.3 cm x 61.7 cm)
From 1834 to 1907, the firm of Nathaniel Currier and, after 1856, Currier & Ives provided a wide and varied gallery of prints for the new mass market of middle class American society. The firm was the most successful American popular printmaker, issuing over 8,000 different prints. Their success was the result of their good business sense and their accurate instincts of what the American public wanted. Their images have become classics, capturing the life and times of nineteenth century America.

#166305The lithograph has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in very good condition save slight toning commensurate with age. Frame shows a few scuffs/nicks and tears to gallery paper on verso, but is otherwise very nice. Wired for suspension and ready to display.Condition
