Anonymous (American or possibly British, early 20th century). The Cunard Line's R.M.S. Mauretania at Sea. Lithograph on tin. Probably printed by H.D. Beach Co., Coshocton, Ohio, USA. An outstanding and quite large color lithograph of the R.M.S. Mauretania printed on tin and set under glass in beautiful custom gilt wood frame with an attractive blue matte and golden moulding. At the base it reads, "Cunard Lines, New York-Liverpool". Designed by Leonard Peskett and built by Wigham Richardson and Swan Hunter for the British Cunard Lines, this ship was launched in September 1906 and had her maiden voyage in 1907. Generally regarded as the fastest transatlantic ship until 1911, this ship was powered by direct-action steam turbines and continued to sail until 1935. Named for the Roman province of Mauritania along the northwest coast of Africa, this vessel held 2115 passengers and 802 crew members. Condition
This piece has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in very nice condition save a few minute scuffs or stains. Framing is stunning, with a some expected scuffs to the finish. Glass is intact. A few minor tears to black gallery paper on verso that do not impact the image. Wired for suspension and ready to hang. Guernsey's Auction sticker on verso as well.
