Engraver H. C. Shotwell (American, active mid 19th century). Engraving of President Abraham Lincoln from a photograph by Alexander Hesler (American, 1823-1895). Dated 1860. A black and white engraving of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, by H.C. Shotwell of Rockford, Illinois from Alexander Hesler's photograph of the President. The famous sitter is presented in 3/4 view facing his left, with tousled wavy hair and notably without a beard, dressed in formal suit with dress shirt, bowtie, vest, and jacket. Lincoln of course is best known for being the Union's president during the Civil War (1861-1865) as well as the author of the Emancipation Proclamation - as well as his assassination in Ford's Theatre by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865. This engraving is set in an oval wood frame with a finely carved floral/fruit/ribbon motif presenting nice gilt passages and under glass. Size: 14.25" L x 12.25" W (36.2 cm x 31.1 cm) framed

Condition
Set in a frame under glass, this engraving has not been examined outside the frame. The composition appears to show slight toning and foxing and a small tear or crease to the right, outside the image. The frame is quite nice with minute losses to outer decorative border, a few cracks to the internal gilt border, and expected age wear with minor scuffs here and there. Wired for suspension and in overall good vintage condition.
