**First Time At Auction**
European, 19th century. Meticulously painted gouache or watercolor, a charming view of a river or bay with a group of staffage figures in the foreground - one gentleman sitting on a boulder, while the woman and child beside him are walking toward the water. Toward the right in the middle distance is another pair of figures, one on horseback, and beyond them, below a flag suspended from a building is another pair of figures. There is a lovely sailboat in the crystalline inlet, and the setting presents with leafy trees, a tall pointed monument or church steeple, and quaint vernacular edifices on the shore; mountains beyond the opposite shore, and billowing clouds in the azure skies above. All is set in an ornate frame that is embellished with traces of gold. Size of painting: 4.5" L x 6.5" W (11.4 cm x 16.5 cm) Size of frame: 9.875" L x 12" W (25.1 cm x 30.5 cm)

Condition
Painting appears to have a few stains commensurate with age, but color and details are still strong. The opulent frame has some losses and has been repaired, but is still quite nice and complements the painting well. It is wired for suspension and ready to display.
