North America, United States, Colorado, Sterling, Pliocene to Pleistocene (Ice Age), ca. 100,000 to 20,000 years old. An impressive fossil featuring three sizable mastodon teeth in a jaw bone with wonderful snowy-white enamel. This rare find was discovered by V. B. Norris in North Reservoir Bank in Sterling, Colorado in September 14, 1971. Mastodons, unlike mammoths or contemporary elephants, had cusp-shaped teeth, well-suited to their diet of browsing and grazing. Mastodon teeth, such as this example, are much rarer to find than those of mammoths. Size: 5.71" W x 3.32" H (14.5 cm x 8.4 cm)
