North America, Eastern United States, New Jersey, Late Triassic to Early Jurassic period, ca. 252.2 to 145.5 million years ago. This is a fine trace fossil of a dinosaur footprint within a slate matrix that is slightly inflated, giving a nice view of the foot pad and claw tips of this prehistoric creature. The print is tulip shaped with 3 digits, and since footprints are only impressions left by dinosaurs, researchers have much less information to use to determine a species. It is believed that this print is from a type of Ornithischian (bird hipped) theropod - this particular print might be from a carnivorous type. Size of footprint: 4.75" L x 3.5" W (12.1 cm x 8.9 cm); matrix: 13" L x 0.5" W x 6.5" H (33 cm x 1.3 cm x 16.5 cm); 7.75" H (19.7 cm) on included custom stand.
