Ancient Seas, North America, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. This is a pretty, fossilized tooth from a prehistoric megalodon shark. The very tip of the enamel is polished, revealing the black layers beneath the gray enamel, and adding a pleasantly silky texture to the tooth. The rest of the enamel is unpolished and has the natural luster and coloration that resulted from the fossilization process - the chemicals and minerals present in the water and sediment determine the colors of these monster teeth. Given how an average megalodon would contain around 276 teeth in its mouth at any given time, this tooth serves as a testament to just how enormous this ancient aquatic hunter would have been! Pictured stand not included, but available for an additional fee. Size: 4.24" L x 3.61" W (10.8 cm x 9.2 cm)
