Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 2.6 million years ago. This is a fine fossilized tooth from a prehistoric megalodon shark that has been polished to show off its amazing layers. The root is a matte dark gray and black hue that contrasts beautifully with the lighter taupe gray enamel. The reverse is natural, and the obverse is polished to a glassy surface, revealing the black stone matrix underneath the enamel. Megalodons are prehistoric sharks that were one of the ocean's largest and most feared predators. Despite their monstrous size their bodies were mostly cartilage and did not fossilize, and these remarkable teeth are their only legacy. Size: 4.56" L x 3.15" W (11.6 cm x 8 cm)
