Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 2.6 million years ago. This is a beautiful, fossilized tooth from a prehistoric megalodon shark that has been polished on the obverse face to show off the matrix layers under the enamel. The reverse is not polished, and the creamy beige-gray enamel has a natural luster that developed during the fossilization process. The gray and black hues are a natural part of the age as well - the colors are a direct result of the different minerals and chemicals present in the water and sediment surrounding the tooth. This fossil exhibits a fine shape - the classic cleft root and triangular pointed tip! The polishing enhances the pleasantly tactile surface of this fabulous tooth. Reconstructions suggest Megalodon reached lengths up to 54 feet, three times larger than Great Whites sharks of today! Size: 4.44" L x 3.15" W (11.3 cm x 8 cm)
