Ancient Seas, China, Guizhou, Mid Triassic period, ca. 247.2 to 237 million years ago. A beautifully preserved, articulated fossil of a Keichousaurus, in its original stone matrix, with the long neck and tail stretched out to either side of its body and its limbs curved down at its sides. Keichousaurus was a marine reptile that died out at the end of the Triassic, a time period when many marine reptiles went extinct, leading to the rise of the dinosaurs. This creature would have eaten fish in the ancient seas that ringed the supercontinent Pangaea. This keichousaurus is well preserved with nearly each bone intact and clearly visible.
