North Africa, Taouz, Sahara, Morocco, mid-Cretaceous, ca. 100 to 93 million years old! This is an amazing fossilized Carcharodontosaurus tooth with serrated edges from a massive dinosaur that lived in modern-day Morocco during the Middle Cretaceous period. The tooth has attained wonderful coloration from the iron-rich minerals in which it fossilized and presents umber brown and mahogany red hues! The indentation and cavity within the basal root contain minute quartzite crystals attesting to the great age and chemical process this tooth underwent! Carcharodontosaurus is among the largest predatory dinosaurs, thought to be even larger than the Tyrannosaurus Rex, but lived millions of years before T-rex. This dinosaur is named after the shark Carcharodon, whose name means "jagged/sharp teeth," perfectly exemplified by this tooth! Size: 3.65" L x 1.62" W (9.3 cm x 4.1 cm)
