Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 9th to 10th century CE. A beautiful pendant of discoid shape, formed from 90% silver, featuring a stylized wolf on the obverse face. Surrounded by a stippled border, the curvilinear wolf presents in a right-facing running pose with legs extended, its head turned over its back to the left, and its bushy tail flowing above its body. An abstract symbol with spiraling tendrils and a triangular upper element adorns the area beneath the canine creature, and atop all protrudes an integral, perforated suspension tab. Nice patina covers the surfaces of this attractive Viking artifact! Size: 1.18" W x 1.43" H (3 cm x 3.6 cm); silver quality: 90%; total weight: 6.8 grams.
