Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous and thick 90% gold (equivalent to 21K+) ring with a tapered shank and a massive protrusion at the top of the band. The knob at the top is rounded with a stacked appearance, and is probably molded from a dense sheet of gold. The shank is made from a flat piece with the inner peripheries curved inward to create a thicker band. The button face is unusual and is perhaps unfinished, meant to bear further engravings that would create special signet markings. Size of band: 0.95" W (2.4 cm); protruding button: 0.44" L x 0.34" W x 0.3" H (1.1 cm x 0.9 cm x 0.8 cm); opening: 0.75" Diameter (1.9 cm); US ring size: 6.25; gold quality: 90% (equivalent to 21K+); weight: 7.2 grams
