Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, Daunian, ca. 525 to 475 BCE. An intriguing pottery dipper bowl known as a kyathos with a wheel-thrown bowl of shallow form and a hand-built strap handle depicting abstract zoomorphic creatures. Along the cream-hued interior and exterior surfaces of the body are dark brown stripes that include broad, openwork triangles as well as a central panel of perpendicular lines inside the basin. The interesting handle bears a pair of projecting 'antennae,' 2 circular eyes beneath an avian-esque comb, and intricate diamond-form motifs across the obverse.
