Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1450 CE. A fine mummy bundle false head made from tightly woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of beige, fuchsia, wheat, coffee, sapphire-blue, cream, and crimson. The minimalist countenance displays rectangular, black-and-pink eyes and lips, a bar-shaped nose, tasseled earrings with conical upper bodies, and a shaggy coiffure held in place with a polychrome headband. The neckline is adorned with a yellow, red, and white collar with a frilled lower periphery, and the mask is stuffed with original leafy/vegetation filling. Custom lucite display frame included. Size (bundle): 8" W x 9.25" H (20.3 cm x 23.5 cm); size (frame): 12.125" W x 12.2" H (30.8 cm x 31 cm).

Condition
Fraying and loosening to some interior and peripheral fibers, with minor staining and fading to original cloth coloration, and desiccation commensurate with age. Nice earthen deposits and great traces of original pigment throughout.
