Southeast Asia, Cambodia or Northern Thailand, Khmer Empire (Angkor culture), ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A gorgeous pottery vessel exhibiting a bulbous body, a sloped shoulder, a conical, tiered neck, and a flared rim, all sitting upon a brief leg and tiered foot. Boasting a lustrous black glaze, the body of the elegant jar is embellished with a series of lightly recessed vertical striations flanked above and below by 2 horizontal registers of an incised undulating motif. Centuries of wear to this ancient vessel have created a beautiful, mottled effect to the glaze, featuring hues of caramel, cream, and mocha, along with areas of a glimmering, rainbow-hued iridescence. Size: 8.25" in diameter x 12.375" H (21 cm x 31.4 cm)
