Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A slender and smooth alabastron of round-bottomed form that is hand-carved from banded alabaster in hues of wheat, tan, cream, and goldenrod. The teardrop-shaped perfume container begins to taper slightly near the shoulder and more so near the neck beneath the petite rim, and a pair of lug handles protrude slightly from the midsection. Though the ancient alabastron form originated in Greece, its image became ubiquitous with luxury and opulence and spread throughout the ancient world. Size: 1.5" W x 3.85" H (3.8 cm x 9.8 cm)
