- Lot Description
Ancient Egypt, Ptolemaic to Roman Period, ca. 30 BCE to 3rd century CE. A wheel-thrown pottery bowl covered in red pigment. The base features a squat foot used for stability. Bowls like this example were used for a myriad of different purposes and were a utilitarian staple in any household. Size: 10" L x 9.875" W x 2.5" H (25.4 cm x 25.1 cm x 6.4 cm)
Exhibited at the Drexel Museum, Philadelphia, 1895 to 1914; with the Drexel Institute Collection, Minneapolis Museum of Art, 1916 to 1958; ref. no. 16.570; at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) from 1986 to 1991; in the University of Arizona Museum of Art, October 1993 to December 1993; and in the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA), California State University, San Bernardino from 1998 to 2023, reference number EL01.050.1998
