Egypt, Third Intermediate period, 22nd Dynasty, ca. 945 to 720 BCE. A lovely mold-formed faience ushabti exhibiting a mummiform presentation that is enveloped with layers of blue glaze. Hand-painted black decorations create the agricultural tools held in arms crossed atop the chest as well as the minimalist facial features and head band; a broad seed bag is painted along the verso. A column of hieroglyphic symbols is painted onto the front of the legs and, while untranslated, would provide the name of Osiris as well as the name of the deceased. Size: 0.6" L x 1.3" W x 3.8" H (1.5 cm x 3.3 cm x 9.7 cm)
Provenance: private Thousand Oaks, California, USA collection, acquired March 30, 1999, ex-J. Restow collection
