Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 20th Dynasty, ca. 1189 to 1077 BCE. A tall and stocky ushabti constructed from red Nile silt clay that exhibits its characteristic coarse texture. The figure stands in mummiform with fused legs and crosses both arms atop the chest, its red-painted pick and hoe faded over time, and a similarly softened red seed bag is visible behind the left shoulder. The yellow body exhibits a wesekh collar beneath the striated wig lappets, and a column of faded red hieroglyphs are seen down the front of the legs. The heart-shaped face exhibits slanted ovoid eyes beneath incised brows, full lips, and tall ears, all beneath a wig accentuated with black pigment within the striations. Size: 2.8" W x 7.875" H (7.1 cm x 20 cm); 8.25" H (21 cm) on included custom stand.
