Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful and petite pendant depicting a recumbent ram that is hand-carved from mottled blue and cream lapis lazuli. The slender creature exhibits an ovoid body with a perky head boasting a pair of drilled eyes. A biconically drilled suspension hole is oriented vertically through the back so the pendant could be worn on a bracelet, a necklace strand, or woven into the lining of linen mummy wrappings. Rams in ancient Egypt were associated with fertility, war, and bravery. Size: 0.75" L x 0.625" H (1.9 cm x 1.6 cm)
