Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom to Late Dynastic Period, 12th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1991 to 332 BCE. A large fragmentary hematite stone plinth featuring the remains of two sets of feet, representing two offering bearers or worshippers making a ritual gesture, possibly before a set of canopic jars or libation vessels. Their bodies may have originally been more fully carved but are now damaged or eroded. Though only a portion of the original sculpture remains, this piece provides a fascinating glimpse into ancient Egyptian artistic conventions and ritual symbolism. Size: 4.5" L x 3.5" W (11.4 cm x 8.9 cm)
