Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab pendant covered in blue-green glaze. The topside features insectile characteristics such as a convex wing carapace, a slender head with a gently frilled clypeus, and sinuous legs tucked beneath the body, all above a suspension hole oriented lengthwise through the body. The underside is inscribed with a series of hieroglyphs that when translated read, "(The Sun God) Re is lord of life(?)" with recognizable glyphs including a royal uraeus cobra and an ankh. Condition
Minor nicks and abrasions to topside and bottom, with darkening to glaze pigment on top of wing carapace, and very light softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to hieroglyphs on bottom.
