Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A beautiful, mold-formed faience scaraboid of a double-sided ovoid form with rounded peripheries and a suspension hole drilled lengthwise through the body. The obverse features a kneeling, left-facing pharaonic figure holding a crossed heka scepter and flagellum while wearing the Pschent headdress symbolizing his rule over both Upper and Lower Egypt. Hieroglyphs depicting an axe or pennant and a heart-and-windpipe as well as a trio of horizontal bars flank the figure, and a pair of uraeus cobras are below his legs. The verso depicts an intricate motif of a flower with four curling tendrils as well as four uraeus cobras emanating from the corners. Enveloped with a lustrous blue-green glaze, this is a fabulous accessory from ancient Egypt! Size: 0.55" L x 0.375" W (1.4 cm x 1 cm)
