Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A fine collection of lovely petite faience beads strung together as wearable earrings and a dazzling necklace. Topped with modern sterling silver hooks, each earring is comprised of 25 ancient beads that are tubular and disc shaped with seed beads closer to the terminal, all glazed in vibrant hues of turquoise, beige, yellow, black, white, and brick. Size of each earring: 2.187" L x .75" W (5.6 cm x 1.9 cm); Size of largest bead: 0.375" L x 0.125" W (1 cm x 0.3 cm); Size of necklace: 16.5" L (41.9 cm)
Meanwhile, the dazzling necklace features dozens of Egyptian faience beads arranged in a lovely pattern that is nearly symmetrical on both sides. Moving outwards from the clasp, this splendid motif features a row of several discoid and barrel-shaped beads followed by a repeating pattern of 3 tubular beads, one smooth flanked by 2 incised that appear as several barrel-shaped beads and then a group of 3 discoid beads. Glazed in shades of blue, green, maroon, black, and cream, this intricate pattern is further enhanced by a central motif of red, black, and cream discoid beads at its center, opposite the clasp. All together, an attractive set of wearable jewelry that would make a fine accessory for everyday wear, as well as special occasions!
