Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A lovely mold-cast bronze figure of Imhotep, a royal architect during the 3rd Dynasty of the Old Kingdom Period who was the mastermind behind the Step Pyramid at Saqqara and was later worshipped as the god of architecture, medicine, and writing. The figure sits with delineated feet resting atop an integral square plinth with a lower tang, wears a shin-length kilt, and holds an unfurled scroll in his lap. The enlarged head boasts petite almond-shaped eyes, a triangular nose, puffy cheeks, cupped ears, and slender lips, all beneath a bald pate. Thick layers of brown and green patina have developed across the exterior and makes this an attractive example of Egyptian figural artistry! Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 1.625" W x 5.375" H (4.1 cm x 13.7 cm); 6.3" H (16 cm) on included custom stand.
