Southeast Asia, northern Philippines, Luzon, Ifugao peoples, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fascinating wood figure shown squatting atop an integral plinth with thick, bent legs and stubbed arms that hang from square shoulders. Presenting a bulbous, bald head, his expressive visage displays squinting eyes beneath an arched brow, a wide, flat nose, and a large mouth held slightly open, all flanked by a pair of sizeable ears. Enlarged testes and a pointed phallus can be seen between his legs. Note the artist's careful attention to detail as apparent in his strong chest muscles and carefully delineated fingers and toes.
